How do online classes work?

Students complete coursework in their spare time, but they still need to meet. Just like texting a friend, the online panel discussion gives you the opportunity to weigh in on daily topics anytime, anywhere. With online classes, teachers no longer need to post office hours because they can respond to student messages faster. One of the biggest benefits of taking classes online at Laurus College is the opportunity to meet other students in the virtual classroom.

When you attend the online class, you are logging in to the live classroom with other students who are studying the same material you are learning. You can interact and work with other students, as well as interact and talk with your teacher in real time. For introverts, those who feel uncomfortable speaking in class settings, or those who simply prefer to work alone, the online classroom is a judgment-free environment where learning and discussion occur by writing words rather than speaking words. When combined with the hard skills learned in a degree program, graduates of online schools can present themselves as the complete package to employers.

While some people may be more comfortable with the traditional classroom environment, others will find that online learning is advantageous and even ideal for them. In many cases, a teacher can create a message board for the class and request students to answer questions and ask themselves questions about the material to make the learning experience more engaging and interactive. Online e-learning tools help students with the learning process, as well as traditional methods, and online classes offer many additional benefits. Instead of being tied to the classroom, students can now learn and study in the privacy of their own home with online learning.

Digital Arts and Computer Animation students can attend club meetings online and work on their portfolios at the Get Real Club. In many ways, online learning can be a real benefit for students, especially those juggling family or career with school. While that may be true for competency-based programs, it couldn't be further from the reality for high-quality, instructor-led online classes. This interactive classroom environment allows students to participate in a full learning experience without having to leave home.

You can upload sample assignments, talk to other prospective students, meet Drexel faculty, advisors, and enrollment counselors through discussion forums, and get an idea of what it would be like to be an online student at Drexel. These participatory activities can count towards one's final grade, just as class participation does in the traditional learning environment. Once you understand the basics of how online classes work, you can decide if they're right for you. As a student taking online classes at Laurus College, you will complete your assignments and deliver them online through the My Laurus (MLP) portal.
